This nameless wedge-shaped building with the round corner facing the old town - everyone’s favorite and slated for the demolition - now has a historic view, which shows a tea store that opened in its northern end in 1931:

Little is known about this fancy shikumen residence on Penglai Road, in the old town. In the 1930s, it was part of a cluster of four similar houses, inhabited by the family of a certain 夏嘉孙. ... was the little Bowling Club on Nanking Road, at No. 49, close to the corner of Honan Road. It was established in 1857 at what was then the outskirts of the city. The club maintained its exclusivity by keeping the membership numbers low; in the 1920s the club still only had 24 members.
